After the Iraqi National Team draw in their friendly game against Kuwaiti National team yesterday, Younis Mahmoud managed to break the Iraqi national caps record held by Iraqi star Husein Saeed by increasing his tally to 127 games played for the Iraqi National Team. With this number, Younis Mahmoud has officially passed Hussein Saeed’s 126 game record that was help for over a decade.
Here is what Younis had to say:
“To be honest, breaking this record would be very hard without the fans that stood by me in the highs and lows and in every game inside and outside the football field. Breaking Hussein Saeed’s number is considered a dream to me and I promise the fans that I will give my all in the coming games and tournaments.”
As for the Iraqi national team goals, the record is still held by Iraqi legend Hussein Saeed at 61 goals whereas Younis’s current goal tally stands high at 51 goals and counting.
